中學工作坊 - 認識香港珊瑚群落及保育
本計劃希望讓更多香港的中學生了解本地的海洋生物多樣性,透過珊瑚講座,漁農自然護理署《香港海洋生物多樣性》紀錄片放映,珊瑚骨展示,及親身協助培植珊瑚幼苗,以認識這種特別的動物及啟發大家成為保衛海洋的一份子!


ABOUT US
Coral Academy is an outreach programme lead by Dr. Apple Chui, a lecturer from the School of Life Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, with the following objectives:

To enhance public awareness and knowledge of the rich marine biodiversity of Hong Kong, with a special focus on coral communities and conservation through seminars and coral displays.

To establish a connection between participants and local corals through a first-hand experience of nurturing coral fragments to be used in coral restoration works.

To promote individual behavioural and lifestyle changes to protect the marine environment.

Lecturer
APPLE CHUI PUI YI
Dr. Apple Chui is a lecturer in the School of Life Sciences, CUHK. She received undergraduate training in biology from HKUST, master and doctoral training in environmental science and biology from CUHK. She is also an experienced PADI Rescue diver who has logged more than 800 dives in Hong Kong. Apple has been studying corals in Hong Kong since 2008, her contribution to coral research work has been recognized by various scholarships and conference presentation awards she has received. Apart from research, Apple has also been actively engaged in public outreach and education activities on marine and coral conservation in Hong Kong. She has been invited to speak at public seminars on corals, marine parks and marine ecological resources in Hong Kong for AFCD, WWF, RTHK, Hong Kong Science Museum, schools and different organizations. With practice and experience in public speaking, she has learned to become a story-tellers of science, making science easier to understand. She has recently launched the “Adopt a Baby Coral” project to engage her students in environmental stewardship. Dr. Chui is also an amateur underwater photographer, combining her scientific background and photos, she hopes to share with people the diversity and beauty of marine life in Hong Kong waters, to raise awareness and inspire action in marine conservation.
